Mini Outer Wilds is a small fan project recreating the 22 minute loop of the absolutely amazing game Outer Wilds' universe in a miniature form. Best played in fullscreen!

(Disclaimer not affiliated with Mobius Digital, and you should put the you know what on loop while playing)

Features:

  • Scrubbable timeline of the time loop.
  • All astronomical objects in the universe, inspectable up close.
  • Some easter eggs to find.

Control:

  • Hold Left click to rotate
  • Left click on objects to center on them, pan away to disengage center
  • Middle/Right click to pan
  • Scroll to zoom

Mobile Control: the usuals. Two fingers move to pan and pinch to zoom.

Note:

I was messing with my Godot plugin using immediate mode to create procedural shapes. I started messing with creating miniature universe and then got carried away recreating Outer Wilds universe, as best I can at least (in like 3000 lines of GDscript).

Hope you have fun with it :)

Thanks to u/gravitystix on reddit fixed some bugs (can't believe I got the white hole position wrong without noticing it) and added some features!

This is beautiful, thank you! I didn't realize I could move the camera in my first "watch", and thought about how cool it would be if the moon did its thing. I then rewatched, using controls. Very, very cool!

Glad you enjoyed it!

This is really neat! It would be fun to add the deep space satellite (for reasons), but I understand if it would be more difficult.

Actually it is in there! But apparently it’s so small in the universe’s scale so you must’ve missed it haha.

Look for red orbit and red flashing light!

I like this a lot. Outer Wilds is my favorite game of all time and I think you’ve captured so much of its beauty here. <3

Is the source code available, by chance? ::)

Glad you like it :)

I might release the source code once I had my Godot rendering plugin finalized it's not ready for the world yet haha
